ADCO launches environmental awareness campaign for students of Al Ain schools

In line with our prudent leaderships’ directives to spread environmental awareness among members of society, and as part of the company's eagerness to sustainable development and its responsibilities towards the society, the Abu Dhabi Company for Onshore Petroleum Operations Ltd. (ADCO) has launched ADCO’s 2017 Environmental Campaign for all public schools in Al Ain on February 6th 2017.

The campaign officially took- off in Al Wagan School that is located in Al Wagan area- Al Ain. It was organized under the motto: "Towards a Sustainable Environment for Sustainable Development", and was especially directed to students in order to create a sound environmental attitude that will give birth to positive effects in the long term.

The campaign’s objective was to instill green values at an early age for children through education, knowledge and encouragement of participation. These are all keys to a long term change in regards to developing their competencies to independently avoid bad habits and poor environmental behaviors. In addition to that, growing remarkable leaders with the ability to find solutions to environmental problems.

This campaign was aimed towards the students of Al- Ain public schools in cooperation and coordination with the Abu Dhabi Education Council, and with a concentration on students in the fourth, fifth and sixth grades. It was an initiative to encourage the activities that help to achieve sustainability.

ADCO’s Environmental Campaign included the distribution of ADCO’s environmental magazines, related workshops, and the engagement in motivational competitions; encouraging the involvement of their families to spread environmental awareness together.

The launching of this environmental campaign was stimulated from the success it had achieved in Abu Dhabi schools, the Western Region, Al Fujairah and among the children of ADCO staff.
The ceremony held on this occasion was at Al Wagan School, and was attended by representatives from other participating schools as well. Engineer Saleh Al Ameri, Director of Sustainability and Social Responsibility then gave his speech in which he thanked the school administration and all the participating schools for their interactive contribution in the success of the campaign and their commitment to protecting the environment.

Health, Safety and Environment Engineer, Afra Al Hosni, hosted the ceremony, and explained the causes of environmental pollution and the importance of protecting it.
At the end of the ceremony, souvenir photos have been taken with the schoolchildren, and winner- students in environmental competitions conducted have been awarded.
