We produce 3.5 million tons of sulfur per year, and supply around 10% of the UAE’s natural gas.
We operate the Shah Gas plant, which includes gas processing facilities and a sulfur granulation plant that features four of the largest sulfur recovery units in the world.
The plant’s current sulfur output is around 3.5 million tons per year, and accounts for 5% of total global production, making the UAE the world’s largest sulfur producer.
ADNOC Sour Gas has been a regional pioneer in the development of sour gas fields.
The Shah Gas plant was the first in the region to overcome the hurdles associated with sour gas processing, and the first in the world to process more than one billion feet of ultra-sour gas per day from a single location.
Our operating facilities are supported by an extensive pipeline network.
The sales gas pipeline is 130km long and is routed to existing ADNOC Gas Processing pipelines for distribution to the sales gas network.
Our condensate pipeline is 67km long and connects to the Asab-Habshan line near Asab.
In October 2011, Etihad Rail signed an agreement with ADNOC to transport approximately seven million tons of granulated sulfur a year from Habshan and Shah to Ruwais for export.
Transportation of granulated sulfur on the Etihad Railway currently averages 10,000 tons per day.
