ADGAS was established in 1973 to be the first gas liquefaction company in the whole Middle East region. An agreement was then signed with Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO), to build a plant on Das Island with an initial annual production capacity of 2.5 million tons of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and 800.000 tons of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG). The agreement provided that TEPCO would buy the plant’s production for 20 years. The first LNG shipment left Das Island in April 1977.
Another agreement was signed with TEPCO in 1990, under which ADGAS was to double its production as from 1994, and TEPCO was to import most of the doubled production for 25 years. For this purpose, another gas processing train was built on Das Island, adding another 2.5 million tons annually to the plant’s production. Then the world’s largest and most advanced facility, the new train was commissioned in 1994, incorporating the latest technologies in the gas liquefaction industry.
Throughout the past 36 years, ADGAS has been the regional pioneer in LNG and LPG production and marketing, thanks to the company’s compliance with the best international practices in the fields of industrial reliability and integrity, and its strict observance of HSE standards. In acknowledgement of such commitment, ADGAS was awarded the ISO 14001 accreditation in 2004, and the widely respected Dubai Quality Award 2008, after being subjected to an audit of its policies, practices and industrial processes.
ADGAS has always been a socially responsible organization. High on its agenda is the issue of emiratization. It has a long history of recruiting, training and retaining national talents, building strong partnerships with local educational institutes for this purpose.
ADGAS new vision and mission highlight the Company’s role in implementing the UAE’s National Energy Strategy. The Company vows to sustain its “recognized international reputation for reliability, integrity and efficiency and to continually improve HSE and business performance”.
